| Abstract: | Top-quark decays are sensitive probes of light charged Higgs bosons (๐ปยฑ) due to the sizable ๐กโขยฏ๐ก production cross section at the LHC in conjunction with their distinct experimental signatures. While dedicated ATLAS and CMS searches considered only ๐ปยฑ decays into ๐โข๐, ๐โข๐ , or ๐โข๐ for ๐๐ปยฑ <๐๐ก, the ๐โข๐ channel remains unexplored, despite being the dominant mode in ๐โข๐โข(2)๐ฟ triplet models. Since top-quark pair production with ๐ก โ๐ปยฑโก๐ and ๐ปยฑ โ๐โข๐ gives rise to ๐กโขยฏ๐กโข๐-like signatures, we recast existing ๐กโขยฏ๐กโข๐ analyses to search for signs of charged Higgs bosons and set novel limits on the product of branching fractions Brโก(๐กโ๐ปยฑโก๐)รBrโก(๐ปยฑโ๐โข๐). These constraints turn out to be at the sub-permille level, despite the observed 2โข๐ preference for a nonzero value. Interpreted within the hypercharge ๐ =0 Higgs triplet model, this translates into a stringent constraint on the triplet Higgs vacuum expectation value of ๐ฃฮ โฒ2โโGeV, which is stronger than those from the ๐โข๐ ,๐โข๐ modes and even surpasses electroweak precision constraints from the ๐ parameter. Moreover, the 2โข๐ preference for a nonzero cross section further strengthens the cumulative case for a โ152โโGeV boson as suggested, in particular, by diphoton excesses. |
