Abstract: We propose a new method to explore the modulated amplitude associated with formation of phase slip centers in a one-dimensional superconductor. With this method we probe finite amplitude modulations that generally induce transitions between different metastable superconducting phases. We derive a central relationship between the modulated amplitude of the SC phase and corresponding electrochemical potential and this relation captures various dynamic and static solutions in closed analytic form.
