Abstract: Microdytes hygropetricus sp. nov. from the northern Western Ghats in Maharashtra State, India is described and illustrated. The new species presumably inhabits exclusively hygropetric habitats on vertical cliffs and differs from all congeners by dorso-ventrally flattened body, strong punctation of dorsal surface, flattened sides of pronotum and elongate metatarsomeres without natatorial setae. Its placement within the genus Microdytes J. Balfour-Browne, 1946 is supported with the analysis of partial sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA and cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 genes.
