Abstract: Though the intriguing properties of main group compounds are harvested in every aspect of chemistry, there is a lot of scope for developing main group chemistry. In low valent state main group elements can mimic the transition metal owing to match in frontiers orbitals with d-orbitals of transition metals. Low valent main group elements are already used in dihydrogen activation, activation of small molecules like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, dinitrogen, ammonia, oxygen, alkene, and alkynes. The low valent and the usual oxidation state main group elements also found plentiful catalytic application in organic synthesis. Still, the stability, viable synthetic routes, and a limited library of known compounds hamper this field’s development. This thesis focuses on developing accessible synthetic ways of stable and novel main group compounds with their proper characterization. We have also utilized them in C-C and C-B bond formation reactions with enough mechanistic evidence, which claims the importance of the main group center.
