If Carotherswas the composer, Flory was the man who wrote the notes forthe music. Carothers and Flory represent the quintessentialqualities that are needed to make great science – intuition andrationality, experiment and theory, flights of imagination anddiligent reduction to practice, exuberance and rigour. |
