Abstract: This chapter offers a concise classical and phenomenological overview of magnetism and its applications. It is specifically aimed at students who are starting to learn about magnetism and require an introductory text that covers the basics. For last few decades, special attention is focused on exploring magnetic phenomena related to ferrite materials. Despite the considerable research conducted on ferrites, new advancements are consistently emerging, especially in the fields of new technological and biomedical applications. Consequently, the chapter aims to lay a theoretical foundation by elucidating the origin of magnetism, introducing different types of magnetic materials, and explaining their response to external magnetic fields. Additionally, the chapter describes crystal structure and explores structure–property correlations that lead to diverse applications in ferrite materials. The author personally recognizes the significance of imparting fundamental knowledge for understanding nanoscale magnetism. Therefore, the focus is placed on grasping the basics, coupled with a concise introduction to fine particle magnetism.
