The carbonaceous materials produced from bio-based sources have gained considerable attention because of their substantial carbon content and their renewable nature. Several applications of carbonaceous materials derived from bio-based sources have been studied and are currently in demand due to their potential quality-controllable production, large scale, and cost-effectiveness in an eco-friendly manner. Compared to the conventional synthetic methods of biochars, hydrochars, carbon fibers, and activated carbon derived from bio-based sources such as biomass, the transformation to carbon nanomaterials exhibits one of the best ways for biomass valorization. In this chapter, the various carbonaceous materials derived from biomass and its development in several areas of current research are discussed.en_US
